SEM Working Group Annual Meeting 2026

From 15 to 17 April 2026, Warsaw hosted the SEM WG Annual Meeting, an event serving as a platform for the exchange of experiences among researchers using structural equation modeling in their work. The meeting was organized by the Department of Computational Social Sciences at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN) in collaboration with the Quantitative and Experimental Research Team of the Educational Research Institute – National Research Institute (IBE PIB).

The event opened with a workshop led by Prof. Yves Rosseel (University of Ghent), titled The structural-after-measurement (SAM) approach to structural equation modeling (SEM). The conference was further enriched by keynote lectures delivered by the invited speakers, Prof. Yves Rosseel (University of Ghent) and Prof. Jörg Henseler (University of Twente / Universidade Nova de Lisboa). During the meeting, more than 20 presentations were delivered. The presenters included researchers affiliated with academic institutions from countries such as Argentina, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Poland, and the United States.

Among the members of the Department, the following presentations were delivered:

  • Artur Pokropek: From Keyword-Based Text Measures to Latent Variables: Confirmatory Factor Analysis with Word Embeddings
  • Tomasz Żółtak: Confirmatory Factor Analysis solely on Word Embeddings
  • Marek Muszyński & Piotr Jabkowski (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań): Careless Responding, Response Styles, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis: Evidence from the European Social Survey
  • Michał Taracha: Socio-Economic Inequalities and Union Formation Trajectories Among Young Adults in Europe

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the leadership of IBE and IFiS PAN for their financial support. We would also like to extend special thanks to our colleagues from IBE PIB for their organizational support: Dr. Aleksandra Jasińska-Maciążek, Marta Babecka, Aleksandra Kowalska, and Alicja Karaskiewicz-Wiśniewska.

The next event in the SEM WG Meeting series will take place in Paris in spring 2027.
